Sardinia Photography – Light, Contrast and Mediterranean Atmospheres
Embark on a visual journey through Northern Sardinia: turquoise coves, colorful harbors, hilltop villages and artistic installations. An immersive photo series where light and shadow meet Mediterranean poetry.
Sardinian Landscapes is a photo series capturing the essence of the island’s northern coast and its wild charm. During this trip, I explored the surroundings of Santa Teresa di Gallura, the La Maddalena archipelago, the hilltop town of Castelsardo, and the alleys of Alghero, guided by a quest for luminous atmospheres, graphic compositions, and strong natural contrasts.
In the heart of the archipelago, the island of Caprera reveals crystal-clear coves like Cala Napoletana. One of the standout images from this series shows a split summer scene: underwater, light patterns on the pale sand; above, children getting ready to dive from the rocks. A striking visual immersion symbolizing the freedom rediscovered after recent lockdowns.
In Castelsardo, I was drawn to the vibrant contrast between traditional fishing boats and the pastel-colored houses of the old town perched on the hillside. The harbor offers a dynamic composition combining sky, sea and typical Sardinian architecture.
In Alghero, a Catalan-influenced city renowned for coral, I photographed a suspended contemporary installation reminiscent of red coral branches, enhanced by a deep blue sky and dramatic shadow play. A way to merge art, nature and light in a single frame.
As I ventured inland, sunsets revealed the beauty of the region’s contours. Mountain silhouettes stood out against skies painted in gradients of orange and blue, creating powerful contrasts between shadow and light, rock and air.
My travel photography approach is all about capturing atmosphere and emotion. I aim to go beyond landscapes and convey what it feels like to be there: the warmth, the light, the wind, the distant voices. This Sardinian photo series invites viewers to escape and contemplate — far from tourist crowds.
