Villa Savoye Architecture Photography – A Modernist Masterpiece by Le Corbusier
Why does Villa Savoye continue to fascinate architecture and photography lovers? With its clean lines, light-filled spaces and modernist structure, this iconic creation by Le Corbusier is revealed through the lens of the photographer. A series of thoughtful and structured images pays tribute to this 20th-century architectural masterpiece.
Located in Poissy, near Paris, the Villa Savoye is a landmark of modern architecture, designed by Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret. Built between 1928 and 1931, this visionary residence marked a turning point in architectural history with its minimalist lines, pilotis, and innovative approach to light and space.
Since 2016, the Villa Savoye has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with 16 other works by Le Corbusier. It perfectly embodies his famous “Five Points of a New Architecture”: pilotis, roof garden, free plan, free façade, and ribbon windows.
I had the privilege of creating a series of architectural photographs at this iconic location. Through my lens, I sought to capture the interplay of light, the interior and exterior perspectives, the geometric details, and the harmonious volumes of this revolutionary construction.
An ideal playground for architectural photography
The Villa Savoye offers a fascinating variety of viewpoints: the spiral staircase and ramp leading to the roof terrace are both graphic and symbolic elements that invite a sensitive and aesthetic interpretation of space. It is also a place where Le Corbusier’s vision is deeply felt—his functional yet poetic approach to modern living is everywhere.
Photographing such an iconic site requires precision, a strong sense of composition, and mastery of natural light. Each image strives to convey the building’s architectural intelligence and the emotional impact of experiencing it in person.
Today, the Villa Savoye is managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux and is open to the public—a must-see destination for fans of modernist architecture.
