Spring Photography – Flowers and Nikon Z Lens Tests
Spring reveals the first colours of the garden: blossoms, delicate light, and photographic inspiration. A perfect opportunity to test new lenses with the Nikon Z system — including adapted Canon EF glass.
Spring has arrived – flowers, soft light, and gear testing
Spring has arrived, and with it come blooming trees and daffodils bursting from the ground. The light softens — an ideal time to test gear in natural conditions.
Among these test shots, the flowering tree branch and the first image of daffodils were taken using a Nikon Z mirrorless body, a Viltrox EF-Z adapter, and a Canon EF 300mm f/2.8 lens (non-stabilized), shot wide open to achieve a shallow depth of field and strong background separation.
While the Canon EF/Nikon Z combo worked well with the Viltrox adapter, I’ve since switched to a Fringer EF-Z adapter, which offers better build quality and greater reliability with Nikon firmware updates.
The vertical daffodil photo was shot with a Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 at 14mm, also wide open — a test to evaluate its background separation ability despite its ultra-wide focal length. The result is striking: crisp rendering and strong subject separation. The image sharpness clearly outperforms the older F-mount 14–24mm f/2.8 AF-S.
